In 8th grade, students have the opportunity to take a high school credit Spanish 1 class. This introductory course is for students with little or no previous Spanish experience. Students learn basic vocabulary, grammar and language patterns. In this course, students practice listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in an active learning environment. Students engage in group activities and discussions, collaborate on projects, and perform skits, among other things. Culture is an integral part of the course and is introduced throughout the year through various holidays, including Christmas, Day of the Dead, Cinco de Mayo, Easter, and other culturally-relevant topics.
